The only modification to the speakers is that the capacitors are bypassed with low value film/foil poly caps, and I attached Black Hole pad to the midrange support boards. I have a Thorens TD-125 turntable with an SME tonearm, and an Audio Technica AT440ML cartridge playing through a Hafler DH-110 preamp and Adcom power amp. I bought a package of four 12" (30.48cm) square cork tiles for $10.99 USD from a hobby store, and got the tar paper for free from a neighborhood roofing company.
